Bana Ba Letsatsi receives funding and donations from all over the world. We do not receive any money from the Government of Botswana and are totally reliant on the commitment of our sponsors to continue our work.

Since 2004, The Somarela Fund (www.somarela.com) has supported us. Somarela gives Bana Ba Letsatsi money each month that we are able to use as any needs arise. Since this funding is not attached (i.e. not given for specific use only) it enables us to respond to any emergency situations with the children, cover shortfalls and purchase essentials such as food, medicine and clothing. Somarela visits Bana Ba Letsatsi at least twice a year to spend time with the children and witness first hand the progress we have made thanks to their support. The President of the Somarela Fund, Jay Crosby, is also a high school teacher and every year he and up to 25 of his students come to Bana Ba Letsatsi and complete projects. To date some projects have including building a playground, toilet block, football goals, flower gardens and making tire swings.

In 2007, Bana Ba Letsatsi secured a 3-year funding agreement with the European Union. This funding has helped to cover the running costs (the majority of salaries, water/electricity, classroom equipment and programs) of the centre and has also enabled us to expand some of our programs. This funding will expire in November 2010.

In 2009, a relationship with Safari Operator Ker & Downey was developed. They have chosen BBL as their preferred charity to support in Botswana, creating a safari package in our name whereby we receive a percentage every time this safari is sold. At the end of 2009 Ker & Downey took 24 of our children (aged 7-13 years old) into the bush to stay at their Footsteps Camp. For the children who attended it was a chance to learn about the bush and the wonderful wildlife in their country (at the hands of the ever patient and enthusiastic guide, Paul) and to establish hopes and dreams for future careers in the safari industry. Another 24 children will go this year.

Many other companies and individuals have helped us out throughout the years and continue to do so. Those who have supported us so far in 2010 include….

Roger & Alison Heath, UK & Botswana
UNICEF
Paul Moleseng, Botswana
Nicky Brandon, Botswana
